New Update: Alleged Mall Shooter Nabbed Following Long Island Incident

The man thought to be responsible for shoplifting from a Long Island mall – and firing a gun after he was caught – has been taken into custody, police reported.

Nicholas Aaron Hibbert, age 24, was arrested on Thursday, Oct. 26 for firing a gun in the Green Acres Mall, police said.

On Thursday, Oct. 27, police arrested Nicholas Aaron Hibbert, age 24, for the Valley Stream event that occurred earlier that week, according to Nassau County Police. 

Hibbert was allegedly at the Clique clothing store at the Green Acres Mall, located at 1015 Green Acres Mall, Sunrise Highway, on Monday, Oct. 23.

At around 11:15 a.m., he tried to snag some clothes and leave but was confronted by a store security guard.

When the two got into a physical altercation, Hibbert purportedly took out a gun and fired a shot.

He fled the scene in an SUV and the mall was placed under lockdown.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

Police did not release information regarding where on Long Island Hibbert is from. 

Hibbert is charged with:

  • Attempted murder;
  • Robbery;
  • Criminal possession of a weapon, multiple counts;
  • Criminal use of a firearm;
  • Criminal possession of stolen property, and;
  • Reckless endangerment.

He was arraigned on Friday, Oct. 27, where he pleaded not guilty and is due to re-appear on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
